Pressure cook moong dal. Roast sooji with 1 teaspoon ghee or gingelly oil.
Add 1 tablespoon ghee or gingelly oil. Add mustard and cumin.
When it crackles add curry leaves and ginger.
Add 4 cups water and hing and salt and pepper powder
When it boils add roasted sooji and cooked moong dal and stir till it becomes semi solid. It takes 2 minutes
When done add one tablespoon ghee or gingelly oil and have tasty hot rava pongal with sambar or coconut chutney
Using ghee tastes great for this recipe. But if ghee cannot be used gingelly (sesame) oil can only be a substitute for good taste. Do not use vanaspathi or any other oil
