Ingredients

Serves : 6
  • Sooji (Rava) 2 cups


  • Moong dal 1 cup


  • Grated Ginger 2 teaspoon


  • Black pepper powder 1 teaspoon


  • Cumin 1 teaspoon


  • Mustard 1 teaspoon


  • Ghee 2 tablespoon or use only gingelly (sesame) oil


  • Curry leaves 10


  • Hing 0.5 teaspoon or based on smell

Directions

  • Pressure cook moong dal. Roast sooji with 1 teaspoon ghee or gingelly oil.
  • Add 1 tablespoon ghee or gingelly oil. Add mustard and cumin.
  • When it crackles add curry leaves and ginger.
  • Add 4 cups water and hing and salt and pepper powder
  • When it boils add roasted sooji and cooked moong dal and stir till it becomes semi solid. It takes 2 minutes
  • When done add one tablespoon ghee or gingelly oil and have tasty hot rava pongal with sambar or coconut chutney
  • Using ghee tastes great for this recipe. But if ghee cannot be used gingelly (sesame) oil can only be a substitute for good taste. Do not use vanaspathi or any other oil
